Finding your Equipment Model and Serial Numbers

When ordering replacement parts for your Outdoor Power Equipment, you will need the model and serial numbers off the equipment. It can be challenging to find the correct numbers to be able to look up your parts, but lucky for you, we are here to help.

Your first step when looking for your equipment model and serial numbers is to check your owner’s manual. If they are not written in the manual, it is advisable that after you find the numbers to write them in and keep your manual somewhere safe.

Equipment Numbers:

Equipment numbers are the numbers found on a sticker on the machine itself or in your owner’s manual. The location of the Equipment Model/Serial sticker can be very evasive and varies greatly depending on the type and brand of machine.

On Lawn Mowers you will most often find the sticker on the back of the deck near where the handle connects or under the bagger shoot on the back of the deck.

On Tractors they are generally located under the seat, on the back of the machine, inside the back wheel wells, on the underside of the hood or on the sides of the frame under the engine. Sometimes they are a bit hidden and you will have to search to find it.

For other equipment, it is generally located somewhere along the frame.

Engine Numbers:

Engine numbers are located in different places depending on the manufacturer and engine model.

On Briggs and Stratton Engines you need the Engine Model number, the Spec Number and the Serial Number. The numbers you need look like 303447 1234-01 01061201. The first set of numbers is your Model number. 1234-01 is a Spec Number and the final set is the Serial number. Below is the Briggs & Stratton engine line with the location shown for each engine. Honda Engines are the hardest to identify. They have their numbers stamped onto the crankcase of the motor. It is common for them to be very hard to find and to read. Once you’ve found the numbers, sometimes it helps to rub dirt into the print to help make it stand out.
